Japan’s Radioactive Town: As you know, in 2011, Japan was shaken by a big earthquake, and with that, a Tsunami caused a nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Everybody had to move out of this area as fast as possible, leaving everything behind without taking anything.

Many years later, the place is still standing how they left behind.

Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster

The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster was a nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant in Japan on March 11, 2011.

9.0 Tōhoku-Oki earthquake damaged the plant. And after the tsunami led to the release of radioactive material into the environment.

The disaster has resulted in the evacuation of over 160,000 residents from a 30-km radius around the plant. And a total cost of $137 billion to date.

As of December 2016, 10 years after the event, no definitive solutions have been found to prevent another nuclear disaster at any Japanese atomic power plants.

Cleanup efforts are still ongoing as radioactive materials leak from the plant.

In May 2021, Tokyo Electric Power Company agreed to pay $8 billion in compensation to people who suffered health problems due to radiation exposure from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster.
