Can walnuts help you lose weight? Losing weight is not easy, but the right foods can help us do it. To what extent walnuts can help you lose weight, you can learn in this home tip.

Walnuts help you lose weight!

The fact that walnuts are very healthy is not new. Neither is the fact that walnuts have a lot of calories. Scientists at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have now investigated whether walnuts can help us lose weight despite the numerous calories.

The good news first: Yes, walnuts can help us lose weight, although the scientists are still at the beginning of their investigations.

Ten subjects took part in the ten-day walnut study, the results of which the scientists are now publishing in the journal Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.

The study members were divided into two groups, with one group receiving walnut smoothies and the control group receiving a placebo that looked and tasted the same. After five days, they were switched.

In their study, the scientists not only evaluated the participants’ statements regarding their feeling of fullness. They also used functional magnetic resonance imaging to check the subjects’ data. This procedure allows the researchers to observe the activities in the individual regions of the brain.

Why do walnuts help with weight loss?

During magnetic resonance imaging, the scientists found that eating walnuts had a neurocognitive effect on the regions of the brain that are primarily responsible for our eating behavior.

Eating the walnuts made the participants feel significantly better and, more importantly, more satiated for longer. However, due to the nutrient density of the nuts, this was not initially a big surprise for the scientists. However, what was surprising was that the walnuts activated the brain area involved in our food choices.

Because the participants felt satiated, they subsequently took a much more conscious approach to different food choices. They opted for healthier foods, even if they didn’t seem as tasty at first.

However, this is nothing other than what nutritionists have been preaching to us for a long time. Never go shopping with an empty stomach because, with a ravenous appetite, one quickly reaches for foods that otherwise would never have found their way into the shopping cart.

As positive as a result, we must not forget that walnuts contain a very high-calorie density. Therefore, the scientists first want to verify the result in further studies and then find out from what quantity of walnuts the effect ultimately conducive to losing weight sets in. However, even the walnuts are not a miracle, but only an aid. If you want to drop weight, discipline is required.
